Slaughter

Well, a 30.06 definitely did the job. In fact, it dropped him like a sack of potatoes. I never did take the time to look to see where it hit (it was so close range that the sighting in was undoubtedly off on the rifle) but he sure didn't complain. That was good - I was a bit nervous about traumatizing the other animals if it wasn't a clean kill.
Anyway, killing him was the easy part as it turned out. We hung him off some 4X4 posts on the back of my truck to skin and dress and that took forever. By the time we moved the carcass to the shop to a board for butchering, my back was killing me from bending over all day. Anyway, it is done, the meat is cooling in icy salt water and tomorrow morning after some welding on my free smoker/BBQ, we should be in business for the party.
The only question I have is...how much could we have bought this meat for? It seems like an awful lot of trouble....

But you'll get better and better at it and by the time the whole fam is there or something you'll be an expert! Hmmmmm...fresh meat....

It was quite a site. BTW, it the 30.06 did NOT kill it. It was only dead after his throat was slit too. It might have been worth it to buy the meat, but then what would we have done with that extra goat in our pasture?

I've been thinking about you all day and your chore list for today. Sounds like you did good work.

Mike and Brenda Andrus were here today (!) and we talked about what you were up to today and decided in the event of some holocaust we'd come to your house where you know how to get your food the old-fashioned way.

BTW, how much is Varsity comping you for providing food for the party?
